Facebookistan

I personally think that Facebook is a very good tool when it comes to social networking. I think this because companies can use it to market themselves; also another big thing about it is that people can definitely reconnect with those who they have lost contact with. This is a powerful tool when talking about bringing people back together. But to every good thing there are a bunch of negatives that come with it as well. Like Facebook makes it easier for cyber bullies, also stalkers and even pedophiles to find young teenagers on Facebook. So it’s obvious that it has its problems as well. Some other things that I personally don’t like about Facebook and I’ve heard others talk about not liking as well is that they send information to advertisers because that makes them harass you to buy their products or subscribe to their companies. Also Facebook is said to increase chances of people developing different diseases. But that also deals with the amount of time spent in front of the computer screen. The segment with the rapist is very interesting to me because if you think about it anybody (rapist) can make an account and send you a friend request. And if they want to get you information to find you they certainly can get that off of Facebook. My final thoughts are that I hope that Facebook becomes more secure and safe for all its users, this will prevent people from being victims to cyber criminals/ bullies. This relates to the segment about the girl who was tracked on Facebook by the rapist. This is relates to how I think Facebook is not entirely secure and safe.
